Knowing how to photograph car damage can make the insurance process smoother after a collision. Strong insurance claim photos give an adjuster a clear view of what happened and can reduce requests for additional documentation. At Marv’s Body Shop, we have captured thousands of photographs and follow these guidelines to ensure the adjusters have what they need to keep the claims process moving.
• Clear wide shots help establish the full condition of the vehicle.
• Close photos show the depth, location, and severity of specific damage.
• Photos of identifying details and the accident scene can make claim documentation more complete.
What Specific Photos Does Marv’s Body Shop Take?
We start with wide photos from each side and corner of the vehicle. These images provide context and show where the damage is located. Then we take closer photos of dents, scratches, broken panels, lights, glass, and other visible damage. We use multiple angles so the shape and depth of the damage is easier to see.
When documenting vehicle damage, we also ensure to capture the VIN, license plate, and odometer. If the collision involved another vehicle, the vehicle owner can capture its visible damage and identifying information. Scene photos can show road conditions, vehicle positions, signs, signals, and other useful details.
Marv’s Ensures Good Lighting and Clear Angles
When we take our photos, we do so in bright, even lighting. We avoid heavy shadows or glare that can hide dents and surface damage and of course they keep the camera steady and make sure each image is in focus.
Not Just Photos, But A Professional Inspection Too
Besides good car accident photos to support the claim, we also do a professional inspection to find any damage that may be hidden. Our team can assess your vehicle’s exterior and structural condition and explain the repair process. Contact us to schedule a free estimate in Sioux Falls.
