Midwest drivers know the drill. The first big snow hits, the plows come out, and by morning, roads are coated in a gritty mix of slush and salt.

It keeps families safer on icy streets, but it can be brutal on vehicles—especially in places where winter hangs on for months. Left alone, that salty spray can start rusting critical metal in a matter of weeks.

Road salt works by lowering the freezing point of water so ice can melt, but mixed with moisture it becomes highly corrosive.

It splashes into wheel wells, packs into rocker panels, and clings to the undercarriage, quietly attacking steel, brake and fuel lines, and suspension parts. Even small rock chips in paint can give salt a way to reach bare metal and start bubbling, flaking, and rust.

The team at Marv’s Body Shop has been helping drivers stay ahead of that damage since 1971.

Their technicians see the same problem every winter: what starts as a little surface rust can turn into bigger structural or safety issues if it’s ignored. Catching it early often means a straightforward repair to a panel or seam instead of more extensive metal work down the road.

Simple habits go a long way. Regular winter washes, especially ones that clean the undercarriage, help rinse away salt before it can sit and do its worst. Inspecting lower doors, wheel arches, and the trunk lip for tiny rust spots or bubbling paint can reveal trouble early. Addressing paint chips and scratches before winter—or as soon as you notice them—helps keep bare metal sealed from the elements.

When rust has already started, an experienced body shop can clean and repair affected areas, rebuild or replace damaged panels, and refinish them so they’re protected again.

Marv’s Body Shop uses high-quality materials and modern repair techniques aimed at getting vehicles safely back on the road and extending their useful life, whether the damage comes from a fender bender, years of salt exposure, or both.

Summer means road trip season, with families hitting the highways to create lasting memories. While you’re having fun, your car is quietly facing hidden damage. Here are some tips to keep your car in great shape after your summer adventures.

Paint Problems: More than Just Scratches

Your car’s paint faces many hazards during a road trip. Gravel roads and debris from other cars can cause small chips, which might seem minor but can lead to rust if ignored. Bugs splattered on your car leave acidic residue that can permanently damage your paint if not cleaned quickly. And long hours in strong sunlight can fade your paint, making your vehicle look old before its time.

Windshield Worries: Tiny Chips Can Cause Big Issues

One common problem after a long road trip is windshield damage. Small stones kicked up by other vehicles can create tiny chips. These chips might start small, but they can quickly grow into larger cracks, blocking your vision and becoming dangerous. Even without obvious cracks, constant grit and sand hitting your windshield can cause tiny pits, reducing visibility, especially at night or when driving into bright sunlight.

Don’t Ignore Post-Road Trip Damage

After enjoying your summer travels, take a close look at your car. Do you see any new scratches, chips, or windshield imperfections? Marv’s Body Shop can help.

Their experienced team specializes in repairing road trip damage, from fixing paint chips and fading to replacing damaged windshields. Marv’s can also check your vehicle’s overall structure to make sure everything is safe and secure.

Keep the fun going by ensuring your car is well cared for after each adventure. Visit us to get your vehicle checked and repaired, so it stays ready for the road ahead.

There’s no mistaking the pinging of a hail storm on a car roof. When at home you may be lucky enough to park under a carport or in a garage. Unfortunately, you can’t always prevent damage from severe weather.

When you’re stuck with hail damage you’ll need to get it fixed. First, you’ll want to document the damage and take note of the level of damage. Hail damage can range from small dents to deeper more extensive damage. Hail can cause significant dents causing bent car body panels and making it difficult for doors, hoods or trunk lids to close. Cars can even be left with broken windshields and repairs can rise into the thousands.

An auto body specialist can help remediate damage from hail. They’ll start by assessing the damage and giving you an estimate. After getting your “ok,” they’ll begin by ordering the necessary parts to complete the job. Then comes the repair, this step may involve fixing or replacing damaged body panels, addressing mechanical issues, and restoring the paint and finish of the vehicle. The duration of the procedure depends on the extent of the damage.

To guarantee perfection, the repair shop conducts a thorough final inspection, leaving no stone unturned until they are satisfied with the completed restorations. If you need professional car repair solutions in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marv’s Body Shop is your trusted partner. We guarantee exceptional results with our skilled technicians, state-of-the-art facility, and dedication to quality. Car damage is stressful and expensive. Whether it’s from a minor accident or bad weather, choosing the nearest or cheapest repair shop can cost you more over time.

Why It Matters

A quick, low-cost fix might not last. Poor repairs can lead to repeat problems and reduce your car’s safety and value. With more people keeping their cars for 200,000 miles or longer, quality repairs help protect that investment. Experts say doing it right the first time can save up to $30,000.

How to Choose Wisely

Not all shops are the same. Look for one with experience in the repair you need, like hail damage or collision work. Some specialize in certain car types. Check reviews, ask questions, and get a second opinion if needed. Planning ahead gives you more control when issues come up.

Save Now and Later

Choosing the right shop means fewer headaches and better results. Marv’s Body Shop offers expert service for a wide range of repairs and takes pride in doing the job right. Contact us to see how we can help you get back on the road with confidence.

When you get into an accident and everything is settled, your first course of action is to worry about what will happen to your car. If your car came out of the accident with little more than damage to any of the panels, consider yourself lucky!

Of course, any amount of damage on your car is frustrating. But what do you do when you have a damaged panel? Call the experts at Marv’s Body Shop! Marv’s has been the area leader in body work for cars of all shapes and sizes.

Marv’s isn’t just a team of experts that can get your car road ready again, we’re educators too. So, let’s tell you about panel damage.

When you’re in an accident, chances are you’ll need body work on your car. But what happens when you find yourself in a place where some of the panels on your car can be repaired or replaced? Here are a few things to consider.

  1. Replacement May Be the Only Option— Depending on how much damage was done to your car, panel replacement may be the only way to fix your car. Panels aren’t there just to make your car look pretty — they provide an extra layer of protection. A bent panel is one that is compromised when it comes to safety.
  2. Repair Work Depends on The Type of Accident — A car dent can be remarkably easy to remove if that’s what you opt for. Dents can be popped or hammered out depending on if the accident was a minor fender bender or something else like opening your car door into a concrete column.
  3. Replacement May Need Paint Work, Too — If you require panel replacement on your car following an accident, your body shop may also need to paint the new panel to match your car.

Whatever your need in body work, Marv’s Body Shop is here to help.  Stay safe out there!

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the weather and our local climate in general can have a tremendous effect on your car’s paint job. From snow in the winter to the blazing sun in the summer, every minute your car is exposed is another minute it’s in a battle with the weather.

What’s someone to do to protect their car? Plenty!

    1. Any weather can cause damage to your car

It could be the sunniest day on record without a cloud in the sky, but your car is still taking direct sunlight rays. Regardless of your paint job or any protective coating you have on your car, rain, sun, or snow can cause a slight deterioration in your paint job slowly over time.

    1. Even the air can damage your car’s body

It doesn’t matter where you live because the air quality and the tiny particulates carried by the wind can cause damage, too. Live in a highly pollinated area? That can cause damage if you don’t clean your car regularly. What about the snow? Salt from road treatments can wreak havoc, too.

    1. Treat hail damage immediately

When hail damages your car, it does so much more than create dents and dings on your car. In case hail causes damage to your car’s paint, it would expose your car’s metal to the elements which can rust over time.

Contact Us with any questions about protecting your vehicle’s paint job!

When involved in an automotive accident, the cost of repair is likely at the top of your mind. Automotive shops have several considerations when determining a quote to fix a vehicle. They take the following steps to begin the process:

  • Assess damage: a professional will inspect the vehicle thoroughly to determine how extensive the damage is, both visible and hidden.
  • Determine course of action: mechanics will determine what parts are needed and how to fix the vehicle.
  • Parts and labor estimation: the cost for parts and the labor necessary to fix the vehicle will be estimated. The final cost could be higher or lower than this estimate based on how the actual repair goes.

After the estimate is completed a mechanic will tell you the costs and what work is necessary. When you get information about the repairs you should be informed about:

  • The repairs that your car needs.
  • The amount of labor that the repairs require.
  • The types of materials needed.
  • Any additional costs including taxes, fees, specialized services, paint or more.

Other costs could arise during a repair as well. You may need to pay to rent a car if the damage is extensive and will take a long time to fix. You could also have insurance-related costs to pay. On the other hand, insurance could also help you with paying for repairs. You have the right to choose where you get your vehicle fixed. Ask questions when you get the quote so that you fully understand the work that’s being done.

Each shop may have different steps and methods of practice, but they will be able to help you through every step of the process.

South Dakota winters are tough on all cars, new and old. The salt and sand from the roads, the in and out of dirty boots, and constantly being exposed to the elements, make it difficult to keep your car looking great. If you want to learn how to do this, read on for auto care tips that you could use this winter.

Regular Car Wash

One of the best ways to keep your car looking brand new is to wash it once every two weeks using your own hands. Compared to bringing your vehicle to an automatic car wash, this will help you thoroughly clean places that may be harder to reach. Some items you may need include buckets of water, car wash soap, a pressure washer or hose with a pressure-building attachment, and a wheel cleaning brush.

Proper Drying

After washing, dry your car properly using a microfiber towel. Leaving your car out in the sun may seem like the easiest way to do it. However, this method can actually damage its paint job. This will result in your car looking dull and faded.

Spot Cleaning

Between the two weeks of your full-on car wash, you’ll also need to do spot cleaning for any messes that would end up on your car’s surface. Typically, this would include tree sap, bird droppings, and bugs. You can do this by using car soap, water, and a microfiber cloth to dry afterward.

Periodic Clay Bar Treatment

Using a clay bar is the key if you want your car to look and feel extra smooth. Occasionally, around 3 to 4 times per year, giving your vehicle this treatment will help polish any fine debris on the paint. The glossy feel you achieve with this technique is something you can’t get from regular car washing.

If you get in a car accident, having your vehicle restored might be overwhelming. However, understanding the repair process can help ease your worries and make you feel more confident throughout the journey. Let’s go through each step to gain valuable insights.

1. Assessing the Damage

A thorough inspection is conducted to evaluate the extent of the damage and the necessary restorations. Factors considered include the following:

  • Type of accident
  • Force of impact
  • Location of the damage on the vehicle

This assessment sets the foundation for the repair process.

2. Obtaining an Estimate

The calculation includes the cost of parts and labor. It is essential to clearly understand the repairs required, as well as the time and financial commitment involved.

3. Ordering Parts

Upon approval of the estimate, the repair shop will order the necessary parts to restore your vehicle. Whether these parts are sourced from the manufacturer or aftermarket suppliers, the work may take several days or weeks, depending on the availability.

4. Repairing the Vehicle

With the required parts in hand, the restoration process begins. This step may involve fixing or replacing damaged body panels, addressing mechanical issues, and restoring the paint and finish of the vehicle. The duration of the procedure depends on the extent of the damage.

5. Painting and Finishing

This step entails thorough sanding, priming, and precisely matching the color to seamlessly blend the repaired parts with the rest of the vehicle’s body. To guarantee perfection, the repair shop conducts a thorough final inspection, leaving no stone unturned until they are satisfied with the completed restorations.

6. Returning the Vehicle to its Pre-Accident Condition

The auto body shop meticulously cleans and details the car, leaving no trace of the repair process. As a testament to their craftsmanship, the shop will also offer a warranty, ensuring your satisfaction and peace of mind.
